On 10 March 2019, the Pan African Youth Network for a Culture of Peace (PAYNCOP) learnt about the death of its Board Member Mr. Karim Saafi who died in the Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET302 which crashed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Karim is one of the 157 persons who died on the flight headed to Nairobi, Kenya. He was the Regional Coordinator of PAYNCOP (African Diaspora) and co-chair of the African Diaspora Youth Forum. He was an astute leader who was active in various projects and initiatives aimed at increasing access, empowerment of youth and prioritised peacebuilding on the continent and abroad.
The “Sultan”, as he was affectionately named, will be remembered for his courageous leadership, his passion for youth engagement and his passion for the advancement of the African agenda. The network will never forget his contribution and service to the network, and to the resilient story of the African youth. Through his work, young Africans in Diaspora have been recognized and respected as social actors, as agents in their own lives and as citizens of their own societies.
On behalf of the Board and all the members of the network, we wish his loved ones, friends and colleagues, our sincerest condolences.
