Pan African Network for the Promotion of a Culture of Peace is a federation of national and regional cultural, peace and development organizations from all over Africa. The organization seeks to promote peace, foster cultural understanding and pluralism in Africa, to be an active part in the process of development and modernization of African societies, to contribute to the achievement of sustainable peace in Africa.
PANAPCAF is a member-driven organization. The Board Members are elected by mandate from its Member Organizations. It is headquartered at Nairobi, Kenya.
The organization was established in 1995 as a result of a network of African Peace Researchers for Africa for the promotion of a culture of peace. From the initial idea emerged PANAPCAF that included organizations from all regions and sectors of society to promote a culture of peace based on African values and traditions. In 2001, PANAPCAF became an international NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. PANAPCAF’s mission is to promote peace, cultural understanding and pluralism for Africa through education, culture and development projects at regional and international level.
The stated goal of the organization is to contribute to the achievement of sustainable peace in Africa by increasing awareness for conflict prevention, peaceful resolution of conflicts and pluralism through culture, education and development initiatives.
